Beirut - The Flying Club Cup

Origins: Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
They play since: 2011
Other discs: Gulag Orkestar (2006), The Flying Club Cup (2007)

Disc review:
Well, I discovered this band clicking videos randomly, and I had a very good first impression. The first song I heard was "Santa Fe" and five minutes after I was downloading the album.

The music it's kind of performed bv a sort orchesta, a combination of diferent sounds, from polkas, to mexican trumpeth bands, and the choruses are very good maintained by it's vocalist, Zach Condom.

The lyrics are very poetic, making a nice combination with the particular way to sing of Condom. Although the first songs are more pop styled (using an electronic keyboard), the next ones, and the older albums' ones, are performed by a big variation of instruments, including violins, guitars, accordions and different percussions.

In resume, I find Beirut, as a perfect band for a relaxation day, a quiet moment, or as a background music for a quiet activity.

Fog Digging Sessions - Post Hummus

 Origins: Luxemburg, Luxemburg
 They play since: 2009
Other discs: This is the first one

Disc review:
You may ask how did I hear of this band from such an exotic country... Well, I have, thanks to a friend who has a great music blog of the albums that came on scene in this 2012. I saw the review, and I liked what I read, so, thanks to my impulsive habits, I downloaded the whole album.

Now, coming back to the music. The album is a great mix of weirdness, that's the fullest review I can give. A combination of psichodelic 60's music in some songs, with electropop songs with a bit of dubstep in them. What can I say, a mindblowing combination.
It's not a powerful album, but it's chaotic indeed; looks like the songs weren't diagrammed, and everyone did what the wanted, and that fact makes it even more cooler.

Funny fact: As a kind of testament, on the band's bandcamp wall, they wrote all the principles they would follow before entering to the studio, including these:

  • Every track recorded live.
  • No premeditated ideas.
  • All lyrics based on recent events.
  • Walk in the studio with nothing but their hats and get straight to it.

Released: 23 January 2012
